Exclusive Wilderness Lodging

Forest Night Stays Inside Corbett Core

Wake up to alarm calls and river mist inside India's premier tiger reserve. Forest Rest Houses (FRH) are run under strict Forest Department rules with solar fencing and pure wilderness isolation.

Dhikala Forest Rest House
Core Forest Stay
Dhikala Core Zone

Dhikala Forest Rest House

Dhikala Forest Rest House has been standing since the 1890s. It sits on a raised bank above the Ramganga reservoir, surrounded by solar fencing. After the day Canters leave in the afternoon, the only people inside the core zone are the FRH guests. In the evenings, elephants come down to drink from the reservoir. At night you can hear sambar calling and, if you are lucky, a tiger somewhere across the water. The Forest Department canteen serves basic but fresh vegetarian food — dal, sabzi, roti, rice. No alcohol, no music, no noise. That is the rule and it works.

Private morning and evening Gypsy safaris exclusively for guests
Elevated machan with views over the Ramganga and Dhikala Chaur
Forest canteen — 3 vegetarian meals a day
Permit Window:Booking opens exactly 45 days before the stay date for Indian citizens, 90 days for foreign nationals. Slots for December–March go in minutes. Set a reminder and book at midnight when the window opens.
Gairal Forest Rest House
Core Forest Stay
Dhikala Core Zone

Gairal Forest Rest House

Gairal is 16 km past Dhangarhi Gate, on the bank of the Ramganga river. It has only 6 guest rooms, which makes it much more private than Dhikala. The river is close enough that you hear it from your room. Elephants and tigers come to drink at the edge. Gharials bask on the sandy banks in the mornings. Because of the small capacity, this is harder to book than Dhikala — but worth the effort if you want a quieter, more personal forest experience.

Right on the Ramganga riverbank — elephants and tigers at the water's edge
Gharial and smooth-coated otter sightings near the FRH
Only 6 rooms — very private
Permit Window:45-day advance booking via Uttarakhand Forest Department portal.
Bijrani Forest Rest House
Core Forest Stay
Bijrani Core Zone

Bijrani Forest Rest House

Bijrani FRH is 9 km inside Amdanda Gate, surrounded by dense sal forest. Staying here means your Gypsy is the first vehicle on the tiger tracks before any day-safari jeeps arrive from outside. That early half hour — when the forest is still undisturbed — is when the sightings happen. There are 6 rooms in a traditional forest bungalow style. The Forest Department canteen handles meals. Simple but entirely the point.

Surrounded by sal forest — birds and deer at dawn

Permit Window:45-day advance permit booking required through the Forest Department portal.
Vehicle Comparison

Jeep Safari vs Canter Safari

Understanding vehicle types is key to planning your Corbett safari. Exclusive 4x4 Gypsies navigate private trails across all zones, while 16-seater Canters grant day-safari access into the protected grasslands of Dhikala.

Maruti Gypsy (4WD, open top)Capacity: Up to 6 adults + 2 children

Jeep Safari

You get the whole jeep to yourselves. The open-top Gypsy lets you stand, turn around, and shoot in any direction without disturbing the people next to you. Your guide reads the jungle — alarm calls from deer, pugmarks in the mud, birds flushing suddenly — and positions the vehicle accordingly. The permit restricts how many jeeps can enter each zone per shift, which keeps the experience from feeling like a traffic jam.

Permitted Daily Shifts
Morning Shift:06:00 AM – 09:30 AM (winter) / 05:45 AM – 09:15 AM (summer)

Canter Safari

The Canter is the only way day visitors can enter the Dhikala core zone — the deepest and most celebrated part of Corbett — without booking an overnight stay at the forest rest house. You travel with other guests on the bus, but the elevated seating gives you good views over the tall grass. The 32 km drive to Dhikala itself passes through beautiful forest. Only 4 canters are permitted per shift, so seats go fast.

Permitted Daily Shifts
Morning Shift:05:45 AM – 10:30 AM

Within 45 minutes of entering Bijrani gate, we were watching a tigress walk alongside our Gypsy for nearly 20 minutes. Our guide was reading her movement from the alarm calls before we even saw her. Permit booking with Panthera was completely hassle-free.

Dhikala after 4:30 PM is a different world. Panthera handled our permits well in advance and everything went exactly as planned. Waking up to wild elephants grazing beside the Ramganga — that is not something you forget.

Getting wildlife permits as a foreign national felt complicated from home. Panthera sorted everything — passport copies, permits, transfers, guide. We just showed up and it all worked. Very professional team.

No hidden charges, no last-minute additions to the bill. The Gypsy was outside our resort gate at 5:30 AM sharp. Driver was experienced and maintained proper distance from the animals without being told. Will book again.

Forest Rules & Permit Guidelines

Everything you need to know about official government quotas, ID requirements, child policies, and seasonal gate openings.

For Bijrani and Dhikala, book at least 30 to 45 days in advance — sometimes more in peak season (October to March). The Forest Department opens the booking window 45 days before the safari date for Indian citizens and 90 days for foreign nationals. Daily permits are capped, so they go quickly. Jhirna, Dhela, and Phato are easier to book on shorter notice.
